Environmental Council of the States (ECOS)
ECOS Elects New Secretary-Treasurer and Appoints New Past President
Washington, DC – Environmental Council of the States (ECOS) President Myra Reece announced today that Liesl Eichler Clark, Director of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, & Energy, has been elected by ECOS members to serve as Secretary-Treasurer. Reece also announced her appointment of former President Todd Parfitt, Director of the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, as Past President. Clark and Parfitt fill two recent vacancies and round out the ECOS officer roster, which also includes President Reece, Director of Environmental Affairs with the South Carolina Department of Health & Environmental Control, and Vice President Chuck Carr Brown, Secretary of Louisiana Department of Environment Quality.
“Liesl and Todd are valuable additions with proven regional and national expertise to ensure ECOS leadership continues to reflect the diversity and creativity of our members and maximize the positive impact of our organization,” Reece said.
President Reece also announced the appointment of Jim Macy, Director of the Nebraska Department of Environment & Energy and a past ECOS President, to serve as Co-Chair of the ECOS Environmental Justice Workgroup. Macy will work closely with current Co-Chair Serena McIlwain, Undersecretary for Environmental Protection of the California Environmental Protection Agency.
The appointments come as ECOS leaders meet July 27 in the nation’s capital with U.S. EPA, and on July 28 host the annual State Environmental Protection (STEP) Meeting on Putting Environmental Infrastructure to Work. The STEP program will offer interactive sessions with top-ranking state and federal officials and key partners on infrastructure opportunities in water, air monitoring, power, transportation, land revitalization, and resilience. Members of the media are invited to attend STEP free of charge by contacting Lia Parisien by July 27.
