In celebration of Air Quality Awareness Week, the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) introduced residents to the detectives, troubleshooters, and superheroes who run their air quality monitoring network to protect public health. An engaging and personalized blog post describes the important work of Ecology’s teams that manage telemetry, sensor calibration and repair, and data quality assurance. The story includes insights into Washington’s network of homegrown air sensors called SenseWA – winner of a 2024 ECOS Innovation Award.
Ecology described the ways that its teams directly support key public information resources including Ecology’s Washington Air Quality Map and EPA’s AirNow and Fire and Smoke websites. For the younger generation, Ecology promoted an air quality activity book to teach kids about the importance of air quality.
