Last month, the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) adopted a rule imposing restrictions on 25 formaldehyde-releasing chemicals, which are known carcinogens commonly used to extend the shelf life of products like shampoos, eyelash glue, nail polishes, and hair treatments. Ecology will host a compliance webinar to provide technical support and will work through distributors, retailers, and manufacturers to ensure a smooth transition for the cosmetics supply chain. The rule, which will take effect on January 1, 2027, is implemented under Washington’s Toxic-Free Cosmetics Act.
