The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has implemented an interactive Drought Dashboard to give the public clear, visual access to the state’s drought tracking data. The tool features an interactive map displaying real-time water levels, precipitation, and soil moisture content by integrating data from the U.S. Geological Survey, National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, and National Aeronautics & Space Administration.
This information helps Virginia’s Drought Monitoring Task Force (DMTF) evaluate the 13 Drought Evaluation Regions and their respective drought analysis data and advisory statuses, which are updated biweekly by the DMTFs to keep the public informed. Ultimately, this user-friendly dashboard streamlines complex meteorological data into an accessible format so users can easily monitor current drought advisories and conditions.
