South Carolina DHEC, SC Department of Natural Resources, and Palmetto Pride have announced a new statewide initiative to target illegal tire dumps. The campaign called See it, Report It, allows the state to share information and resources to reduce illegal tire dumping in South Carolina by encouraging residents to help the state identify sites so it can take action.
While most waste tires are properly disposed of by permitted facilities, the state hopes to eliminate unpermitted tire stockpiles. Residents may anonymously report tire dumps by calling 1-877-7 LITTER or through a Report a Litterbug web option. The campaign also highlights that residents should not allow someone to dump tires on their property as landowners may be held liable for associated cleanup costs.
