On September 23, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will launch a major grant opportunity for small-scale projects to reduce landfill methane emissions and increase food waste recovery through composting. Funded through the federal Climate Equity & Resilience through Action initiatives, the $1.7M opportunity is part of a larger program supporting greenhouse gas reduction through improved food waste recovery. Examples of small-scale projects addressing food waste are community composting, drop-off sites, and collection pilots.
Additional funding of $25.7M is available for large-scale infrastructure, such as compost facility and anaerobic digestion expansions, transfer sites, and processing equipment.
Eligible applicants include community organizations, nonprofits, for-profits, and government entities. All projects must be completed by March 2029. DEQ is hosting a webinar on August 12 at 11 a.m. Pacific Time to provide more information on this opportunity.
