On Wednesday, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced the formation of a new interagency working group to help increase zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) adoption and expand charging infrastructure in the state. The working group will include representatives from DEC, the Empire State Development Corp., the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority, and several other agencies.
The group will support interagency coordination, and will develop strategies and recommendations for accomplishing state goals. In addition, members will work directly with manufacturers and suppliers to support the transition of the transportation industry to ZEVs and to increase the production and availability of clean vehicles and charging equipment in the state.
DEC notes that New York State has invested nearly $3B in transportation sector electrification through a range of initiatives, and is currently incentivizing ZEV purchases with $30M in point-of-sale rebates through the state’s Drive Clean Rebate program.
