Last month, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the collection of a record 63 million pounds of food thanks to the State’s Food Donation and Food Scraps Recycling Law. During a public appearance in Albany, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Amanda Lefton and Feeding New York State celebrated the latest milestone that helps feed hungry New Yorkers and reduce pollution that contributes to climate change.
DEC has provided $10.8M to Feeding New York State and the 10 regional food banks since 2018 through the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF). Feeding New York State uses these funds to deploy staff to grocery stores, restaurants, colleges, and other food industry facilities to boost participation in the program and encourage food donations.
