The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has approved the Cyber Readiness Program for wastewater operator recertification, among other pre-approved courses in the state. The Cyber Readiness Institute (CRI) offers this program around the country free of charge with Microsoft support, directed at improving human behavior to strengthen cybersecurity at small and medium-sized water and wastewater utilities.
The program educates operators on steps to take related to passwords and multifactor authentication, software updates, secure storage and file sharing, and phishing awareness training. CRI has worked with more than 60 water utilities across 24 states and seeks to continue to expand services to other states.
