Last week, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and local partners hosted a Wednesday Watershed Walk in the village of Gonic, where attendees visited two dams and learned about removal efforts toward restoring the Cocheco River. The public-private effort focuses on removing 2,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment and fortifying municipal sewer lines to protect infrastructure and prevent environmental hazards.
By restoring the free-flowing river channel, the project will protect natural aquatic habitats and support long-term water quality.
