The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (DES) has partnered with the Overwatch Foundation to deliver new security services to communities as part of its Cybersecurity “In a Box” Programs. The programs are aimed at helping state and local governments mitigate cyber attacks and improve cybersecurity protections in community water systems.
The Overwatch Foundation has assessed over 40 large, municipal community water systems in New Hampshire for critical cybersecurity vulnerabilities and the facilities’ adoption of cybersecurity best practices. Thirty systems have received technical assistance and security enhancements based on the assessed vulnerabilities and gap analyses. Technical enhancements include new or upgraded firewalls, dedicated remote access devices, and migrations to secure .GOV email domains. Those systems include approximately 20 percent of eligible drinking and wastewater systems in the state.
