The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host an online event this month to review the results of a nearly five-year process focused on sustainable materials management and organic waste management. This stakeholder-driven initiative was led by the DNR and funded by a Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling grant from U.S. EPA.
Four material categories, including organics, were selected for evaluation of potential strategies to reduce waste and develop disposal alternatives. Stakeholder event attendees will have an opportunity to discuss these results and provide input on possible next steps to be considered in the development of an Iowa Organic Waste Management Plan.
This discussion, presented by DNR’s Financial and Business Assistance Section, will be held on October 27 at 9 a.m.-noon Central Time. It is open to other states and anyone interested in learning more about organic waste management.
