Last week, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency released a PFAS Integrated Strategy, outlining a range of actions to protect communities and the environment from PFAS exposure. Illinois EPA uses a multi-pronged approach designed to help the agency and external collaborators address the complex and evolving challenges posed by PFAS.
The strategy focuses on:
- Identifying PFAS in the environment, including releases, pathways, and areas of highest concern;
- Strengthening regulatory frameworks and technical capacity to monitor, assess, and manage PFAS; and
- Reducing the impact of PFAS on communities, water resources, and ecosystems through prevention and mitigation.
Illinois EPA underscores the importance of enforcement, compliance, policy development, technical evaluation, and clear communication in reducing exposure and encouraging prevention and cleanup.
