The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is launching an informational process to explore potential new nuclear capacity in Connecticut, in light of growing energy demand. Through a series of public workshops, DEEP will gather stakeholder feedback on advanced reactor technologies, siting considerations, safety, environmental impact, community engagement, workforce development, and fusion technological development. Meeting information will be made available on DEEP’s Public Notices website.
Following these workshops, DEEP plans to develop and implement a voluntary, competitive funding program to support advanced nuclear reactor site readiness. The initiative is designed to assist Connecticut communities as they evaluate the possibility of hosting a wide variety of nuclear technologies.
The Connecticut legislature directed DEEP to establish this program and authorized $5 million in bonds to support funding through grants or loans related to site readiness activities for advanced nuclear reactors in the state. For more information, see DEEP’s news release.
