This week, the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced that the standard rebate level for the Connecticut Hydrogen & Electric Vehicle Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR) program will increase from $500 to $1,000. This increase will go into effect on October 1, and applies only to purchases of new battery electric vehicles.
Since 2015, CHEAPR has offered incentives to Connecticut residents who purchase or lease an eligible new or used battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle from a licensed Connecticut automobile dealership or original equipment manufacturer. According to DEEP, the new incentive levels are intended to help residents continue to purchase electric vehicles after federal tax credits expire on September 30 due to the passage of the federal budget reconciliation bill.
