This week, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Small Business Technical Assistance Program (SBTAP) visited the Grafton County Fish and Game Club in West Lebanon to review hazardous waste management practices. Indoor and outdoor shooting ranges generate hazardous waste – specifically lead – which can accumulate on floors and shooting benches and in ventilation systems. Since lead is a regulated toxic metal under New Hampshire law, facilities must strictly monitor waste volume to determine their generator status under the Resource Conservation & Recovery Act.
In coordination with the U.S. EPA Region 1, the SBTAP remains committed to helping New Hampshire gun ranges effectively manage their lead waste and maintain compliance. Guidance for hazardous waste identification and management for shooting ranges is provided through a fact sheet, which aids facilities in implementing proper containment, handling, and disposal protocols.
