On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, Environmental Council of the States (ECOS) Executive Director Ben Grumbles issued the following public statement:
“ECOS is concerned about the House Appropriations Committee’s actions last week to redirect funding away from the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act State Revolving Funds. These are two of the nation’s most successful and sustainable environmental programs. They are critical to addressing the increasing demands on and risks to the nation’s drinking water supplies. The proposed cuts would be devastating to the states’ capacity to meet current and growing environmental needs and harm the state-federal partnership that is crucial to protect public health and the environment throughout the country. ECOS urges Congress to build state capacity through these programs rather than diminish it, as the Committee has proposed.”
