EPA Administrator Jackson Rescinds Permit Fee Rule
Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson announced March 23, 2009 at the ECOS 2009 Spring meeting that the agency would rescind the NPDES Permit Fee Incentive Rule. The rule, which was universally criticized, would have ‘rewarded’ states with additional water pollution control funds if they charged “adequate” fees for discharge permit programs.
EPA published the withdrawal of the rule in the April 10, 2009 Federal Register.
Information on NPDES permit fees, including the notice of withdrawal of the incentive, is available at http://www.epa.gov/owm/cwfinance/npdes-permit-fee.htm.
